Growing demands and nursing shortage in US, opportunity or obstacles for indo nurses

Growing demands of nurses and nursing shortage in overseas especially US,

its opportunity or obstacles for Indonesian nurses

Nurses may be the most in-demand health care position in the country. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for registered nurses will grow faster than any other occupation through 2012. Registered nurses constitute the largest health care occupation, with 2.3 million jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Nursing is the nation’s hottest job and that status is unlikely to change for at least a decade, according to new government employment statistics.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently reported that registered nurses were number one on the list of 10 occupations with the largest projected job growth for the years 2002 to 2012. Although RNs ranked among the top 10 growth occupations in the past, this marks the first time in recent history that RNs have topped the list.

An aging U.S. population along with increased demand for nursing care have both contributed to the growth in nursing jobs. Another contributing factor is many nurses currently working will be retiring creating even more nursing job opportunities.

There will be more than 2.9 million RNs employed in 2012, up by 623,000 from the nearly 2.3 million RNs working in 2002, according to the BLS report. Despite the projected growth in the number of employed RNs during the next decade, demand will continue to outstrip supply by a wide margin.

"We're always looking for nurses - it's one of those job needs that doesn't go away," says Joel Livingston, a Philadelphia-based health care recruiter. "It's something we can't catch up with."

The continued demand for nurses is fueled by several factors.
"One of the reasons for the nursing shortage is the fact that there are a lot of nurses who have nursing degrees who today can make a living using that nursing degree without actually being a bedside nurse," says Mark B. Cohen, spokesman for Vitas, a national hospice care provider based in Miami. "They are taking jobs like case managers for managed care companies, for example, or working as research assistants for pharmaceutical companies."

Aging workforce
The nursing workforce today is also an aging workforce - the national median age for nurses is 43.3. "The nursing workforce is getting older, which means fewer young people are getting into nursing," Cohen says. "Nurses tend to leave the field before they hit retirement age, too."

Many hospitals take several steps to attract and keep qualified nurses. Some offer on-site licensed practical nurse programs, which allow students the convenience of studying and performing their clinical practice requirements in the same place. Others offer scholarship programs through local schools, which require scholarship recipients to make a commitment to working for the hospital for a certain period of time after they graduate.

Career choices
Nurses can follow one of three tracks during their career - clinical, managerial or educational. Experts say there is a notable shortage of nurses in the educational track. In fact, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing recently reported that although enrollment in entry-level baccalaureate programs in nursing increased by 10.6 percent last year, 26,340 qualified applications were turned away, mainly because colleges and universities have found they have too few instructors to meet the demand.

The higher enrollment numbers show that interest in nursing is increasing. For many, nursing offers the promise of a career that will always be in demand. Off course this is a opportunity to Indonesian nurses which still unemployment in our homeland of Indonesia

How Much Money We Pay Back ???

How Much Money We Pay Back ???

Wallahualam

Sedang hang out tentang nursing

Berikut lampiran email nya :

Date: 15 Mar 2007 17:31:05 -0000 To:"Nur Martono"
Subject: Menunda Kesenangan Demi Investasi From:"David Ciang"

Salam sejahtera,

dua buah permen cokelat.

Kita semua tahu
anak-anak pasti suka permen cokelat.

Katakanlah anda mendapatkan rejeki, seperti bonus
akhir tahun, sebesar 10 juta rupiah.

kesempatan berikutnya.

Regards,

The NCLEX Information for Indonesian Nurses Students

The NCLEX® Examination
The National Council Licensure Examination is a standardized exam that each state board of nursing uses to determine whether or not a candidate is prepared for entry-level nursing practice in USA.

NCLEX Examination Subject Matter
According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the NCLEX examination covers the following "categories of client needs":
• Safe, Effective Care Environment
o Management of Care
o Safety and Infection Control

• Health Promotion and Maintenance
o Growth and Development Through the Life Span
o Prevention and Early Detection of Disease

• Psychosocial Integrity
o Coping and Adaptation
o Psychosocial Adaptation

• Physiological Integrity
o Basic Care and Comfort
o Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies
o Reduction of Risk Potential
o Physiological Adaptation

NCLEX Eligibility
In order to take the NCLEX examination, you must apply for nursing license from your state board of nursing. That board will determine whether or not you meet its criteria for NCLEX examination-eligibility. You must then register to take the exam.

NCLEX Registration
Once you've applied for a license from your state board of nursing, you will receive an NCLEX Examination Candidate Bulletin in the mail. You may then register with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing's testing service by phone, or by filling out a mail-in registration form.
Once your state board of nursing has verified your eligibility to take the NCLEX examination, you will receive an Authorization to Take the Test (ATT), along with a list of testing centers and instructions for how to schedule an appointment to take the examination.

Length of Test
The NCLEX examination is a multiple choice exam which uses an interactive system called Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) to gauge your level of competence. RN candidates will answer a minimum of 75 questions, LPN candidates a minimum of 85 questions. After you have answered the minimum number of questions, the computer will attempt to access your level of competence.
If you are clearly above the passing standard at this time, you will pass; likewise, if you are clearly below the standard you will fail. If you are too close to the standard to allow a definitive result to be determined, you will continue to answer questions until a final assessment can be made. RN candidates may take a maximum of 265 questions, LPN candidates a maximum of 205.

Time to Complete the Exam
You will have 5 hours in which to complete the exam. This includes the time set aside for the introductory computer tutorial and for two 10-minute breaks.

NCLEX Examination Scoring
The NCLEX examination is scored once by the computer on which you are taking it, and a second time by the National Council's testing service.

Receiving Results
It will take about a month for your state board of nursing to mail you the results of your exam.
Not Passing the Test
If you fail the test, your state board of nursing will mail you a diagnostic profile that will outline both the areas of knowledge in which your performance was satisfactory and the areas in which it was not.

Retaking the Test
Yes, you may retake the test as many times as you need to. The National Council's policy dictates that you wait at least 91 days before retaking the test. Individual state boards may impose other, stricter requirements.

Sample Tests
Many Web sites feature free sample tests or questions. For example:
o Delmar's Online NCLEX Review
o NCLEX Excel

You can also purchase sample tests in book form, such as:
o Mosby's Review Questions for NCLEX-RN
