KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Health decided to implement new conditions for the partial privatization of the Nursing Sector in the Ministry. Amending these procedures became necessary after the Ministry experienced negative consequences during the privatization of the Nursing Sectors in the Al-Ahmadi and Al-Farwaniya Health Areas a few years ago, reports Al-Watan. Aside from the nursing tenders for Al-Ahmadi and Al-Farwaniya, the Undersecretaries Council of the Ministry has also approved a third tender for the private sector to provide the Ministry with 600 additional nurses.

The Technical Committee laid down the technical conditions for the private companies that will participate in the bidding for providing nurses to the Ministry. The committee asked the Ministry to prepare 12 tenders in order to cover the manpower needs of the Nursing Sector particularly the Al-Sabah Health Area which requires 50 per cent of the total number of nurses requested since it provides health services to about 60 per cent of Kuwait’s total population.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah issued two decisions including the reformation of the National Committee for Fighting Tuberculosis and the creation of a committee for studying the working conditions of the doctors in addition to the procedures followed for their promotion, reports Al-Anba.

Public Health Affairs Assistant Undersecretary in the Ministry Dr Ali Al-Saif was appointed as Chairman of the National Committee for Fighting Tuberculosis which will set up a working plan for the implementation of programs designed for combating tuberculosis in the country. The committee will also update the national strategy for controlling the disease in accordance to the programs of the World Health Organization (WHO) which will be implemented upon the Ministry’s approval.

In the meantime, Dr Essa Al-Khalifa has been named Chairman of the committee for studying the working conditions and the regulations followed for the promotion of the doctors. The committee will evaluate the existing regulations followed in hiring doctors and in processing their promotion according to the decisions issued by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Cabinet.
